Configuring
Macintosh (MacOS 8 and 9) for
DHCP
This guide assumes you have a properly installed Ethernet
card in your computer.
Step
1: In the Apple Menu, go to Control Panels and then choose
TCP/IP. In the Edit menu on top of the screen, select User
Mode. Set the mode to "Basic" and click OK.

Step
2: Return to the TCP/IP window and click the Options button
in the lower left corner of the box. Make TCP/IP Active and
remove the checkmark in "Load only when needed".
You should now see a dialog like this:

Step
3: Go back to the TCP/IP window. Set the Connect via:
pulldown menu to "Ethernet" and the Configure pulldown
menu to "Using DHCP Server." You do NOT need to
supply a "DHCP Client ID." Leave that field blank.
Step
4: Close the TCP/IP window. A dialog box will open asking
if you want to "Save current configuration." Click
Save.
You should now be able to browse the Internet with a Web application
such as Netscape.
