Setting
up Windows 95/98 for
DHCP
Step 1: In order to configure Windows 95/98 for DHCP,
you must open the windows Control Panel and then double-click
on the Network icon.

Step
2: Now you have entered the Network Control Panel.
If
there are no Adapters listed in this window (they are listed
with a green computer component icon), your network card may
not be correctly installed.
If
everything is correctly installed up to this point, you must
then check to see if TCP/IP is installed. A network cable
icon with the label "TCP/IP" will be present if
the TCP/IP protocol is installed (see below).
If
TCP/IP is installed, please proceed to Step 5. If not, click
the Add button and go through the following steps.

Step
3: Once you've clicked Add, the "Select Network Component
Type" window will open. Select Protocol and then click
Add.

Step
4: A new dialog box will appear with two windows in which
you can make selections. In the left window select Microsoft
and then in the right window select TCP/IP and click Ok. You
may be asked to insert your Windows CDROM at this point. If
so, insert the disk in the appropriate drive and click OK.

Step
5: The TCP/IP protocol should now be installed. To configure
it to use DHCP, click on TCP/IP and then click the Properties
button.

Step
6: In the TCP/IP Properties window, choose the IP Address
tab and make sure the button "Obtain an IP address automatically"
is selected.

Step
7: Next click the WINS Configuration tab and make sure
the "Use DHCP for WINS Resolution" radio button
is selected.

Step
8: In the DNS Configuration tab, make sure the "Disable
DNS" radio button is selected.

Step
9: Click on the Gateway tab and make sure there are no
gateways installed.
-
If you discover any previously installed gateways, you must
select each one and click Remove until no gateways are installed.
-
Click OK on the TCP/IP Properties and Network Configuration
windows.

Windows
will ask you to restart your computer. Select OK to restart
your machine. After your computer restarts, you should be
able to browse the Internet with any Web application such
as Netscape or Internet Explorer.
If
you cannot obtain a connection after rebooting, make sure
your settings are correct and that your computer is properly
connected to the Ethernet jack in your room.
