Enterprise network access is available in both campuses (Hua Mak and Suvarnabhumi), including 3 residence halls on Suvarnabhumi Campus. Connectivity is also available through the high-speed dial-in modem pool for off-campus locations. Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) designs and manages the fiber-optic based network on Suvarnabhubi Campus and Gigaspeed UTP on Hua Mak Campus.

Office of Information Technology Services (ITS)pays for membership in and maintains the University's 68 Mbps connection to KSC and AsiaInfoNet. which provide access to Internet. At Suvarnabhumi Campus, international link speed will increase from 4 Mbps to 14 Mbps and local link speed to 20 Mbps. At Hua Mak Campus, international link speed will increase from 10 Mbps to 12 Mbps, and local link speed from 4 Mbps to 22 Mbps. Connection between campuses will increase from 2 Mbps to 4 Mbps 920 lines of Modem connection are available 24 x 7

Through membership on these high-speed links, AuNet makes them to be the Enterprise network and make the others known us to be a leader in Internet Technology Education.

Information about Bandwidth

We have experienced a substantial increase in network use, attributable in large part to the use of several popular file-sharing applications, such as KaZaA, Morpheus, and Gnutella. Thousands of computers located on student, faculty and staff desks have been consuming massive amounts of very expensive Internet bandwidth and degrading service for all users.

In order to maintain our network in the best possible manner, we have instituted "rate limits" on some of network zone such as residence hall, laboratory. The network zone in question have not been blocked but are now limited as to HOW MUCH bandwidth they can consume.

With the new network tuning, a previous flat rate limit that had been imposed on all outbound residence hall network traffic has been lifted. Everyone at the University now has identical access to the network. The current limit greatly improves Internet performance for all users. We will continue to monitor traffic patterns and use various traffic-shaping tools in the interests of delivering the best possible network experience to all ABAC users.

Finally, all network users are reminded of the potential ethical and legal implications of using software applications to publish and share files in violation of copyright law. Many file-sharing applications cause your personal computer to become a -- perhaps unwitting -- participant in this type of illicit activity.
