Add a Mailbox

Step 1: Start New Mailbox

Start New Mailbox

Before you complete these tutorials, download your incoming messages. See the tutorial "Reply or Forward" in the series "Checking and Sending." For better organization, you can move the messages from the person who emails you the most into a separate mailbox. Microsoft mail products call these mailboxes "folders", but Eudora uses different terms. On the navigation bar of the main Eudora screen, select the top level EUDORA object, and select Mailbox / New.

Step 2: Name the Mailbox

Name the Mailbox

The box that appears explains that you are creating a new mailbox at the top level, and allows you to give it a name. Choose a word that is meaningful to the type of email you will store in the new box. In the example, we have family members who send periodic newsletters by email, and we want to save them in a mailbox called Newsletters. For now, ignore the "make it a folder" option; we will use it later for more advanced mailbox organization.

Step 3: Complete Mailbox Addition

Select OK and you'll see Eudora has installed the new Newsletters mailbox. You can now move mail messages from your inbox to the new mailbox. This improves organization by putting all the newsletters in one place. It also removes clutter from your inbox, so you can find important inbox messages.

Step 4: Move a Message

Move a Message

On the main Eudora screen, choose a mail message you'd like to move to the Newsletters mailbox, and "select" it by clicking it. Now choose Transfer / Newsletters. The message will be moved from the "In" box to Newsletters. You may also move messages by dragging them to the Newsletters entry on the Navigation bar. When your pointer is over the Newsletters entry, release the mouse button and the message will be moved.

Step 5: Move Several Messages

Move Several Messages

When you first make a new mailbox, you'll probably want to move many messages into it. You may use the simple method of dragging and dropping them individually, or you can do it with multiple selections. To use multiple selections, first click one of the messages you want to move, then hold down the <ctrl> key and click the remaining messages. Now you can use Transfer, or drag-and-drop, to move all the messages at once.

Step 6: Undo

Undo

If you accidentally move messages to the wrong place, you can use Edit / Undo to backtrack and move them again. This commonly happens with the drag-and-drop method of moving messages, since you are trying to release the mouse button in a certain place. The keyboard shortcut <ctrl>Z is a quicker way of activating Undo.
