Compose a Message

Step 1: Start the Message

Start the Message

Start Eudora Light and click the "new message" button.

Step 2: Address from Address Book

Address from Address Book

When Eudora launches the "new message" window, it places you in the "To" field so you can address your message to someone. If you have an entry in your Eudora address book for the person you're emailing, select "Tools / Address Book" or press <ctrl-L> to start the address book. Once you're there, select any user in the left panel.

Step 3: Finalize Address Book Use

Finalize Address Book Use

If you are not using the address book, skip this step. Otherwise, if there are other people in your address book you'd like to include, hold down the <ctrl> key and select each one. When you have selected all address book entries you want, press the "To" button and you'll be returned to the message panel with the addresses filled in automatically.

Step 4: Address Manually

Address Manually

If you are addressing the email to someone not in your address book, you may simply type the address in the "To" field. If you want to add a manual entry to your address book entry, you may click the "To" field, type comma-space, and then the address. Always double-check the address; some of them are not easy to get correct.

Step 5: Make Subject and CC

Make Subject and CC

Enter a subject, a reminder of the meaning of your message. In the CC field, place the email addresses of anyone you'd like to receive a copy of the message, just as you did with the "To" field. Computers treat the CC field just like the "To" field. You might address a message to Tom, with copies to Larry and Brenda for their information. CC is an abbreviation that dates back to the days of typewriters and carbon copies.

Step 6: Attach a File

Attach a File

If you have files you'd like to send along with this mail message, click the "attach file" button. The familiar Browse dialog box will appear, allowing you to select files to attach. Select files and click OK, and you will be returned to composing your message with a file name in the "attached" field.

Step 7: Type the Message

Type the Message

Now you get to type the text of your message. Keep the recipient in mind as you compose the message. Refer to the tutorial "Queue and send" to send the message.
