| Step
1: Start Outlook Express |
Importing the address book from Outlook Express to Eudora is a
long process with a lot of manual effort. Neither package provides
a Wizard for moving addresses in the direction we need to take
them. Start Outlook Express, and select File / Export / Addresses.
| Step
2: Export to Text File |
Select Text file and click Export. In the next box that comes
up, click Browse, and find the Eudora directory (folder). Choose
a name for the file. In the example, we'll call the file Addresses.
Outlook Express will add the extension .CSV to the file.
| Step
3: Continue Export |
After you are returned to the CSV Export wizard, click Next and
you'll have a chance to choose what fields are included in the
file. Uncheck all the boxes except Name and E-mail address.
| Step
4: Start Import |
Click Finish and you'll get a message box confirming that the
address book export was completed. Now go into Eudora and select
File / Open Text File. Choose files of type All Files and double-click
on your file name ("addresses" in the example). Eudora
opens a window containing the contents of the file.
| Step
5: Select First Address |
The text you see in the text file window is the address book exported
by Outlook Express. The Eudora address book entries must be added
one at a time by copying text from this text file to the Eudora
address book. Drag across the email address for the Bob Jones
entry and press <Ctrl-C> to copy it to the Windows clipboard.
Start the Eudora address book by clicking the Address Book button.
| Step
6: Start New Entry |
Click New, and give the new entry the name Bob Jones or Jones,
Bob. When Eudora is ready to accept an address, click in the address
window and press <Ctrl-V> to paste the text. Select Window
/ addresses to return to the addresses text file window.
| Step
7: Get Next Address |
Repeat the process for all other entries needed. You may need
to update existing entries. Notice that the email address for
Bilbo Baggins in Outlook Express is different from the one in
Eudora. If the Outlook Express address is up to date, you'll need
to move that one also. This step illustrates the use of the numbered
Window menu entries to move back and forth between text file and
Address book. Drag across Bilbo Baggins' email address and press
<Ctrl-C> to copy.
| Step
8: Complete Addresses |
Return to the Address Book and click on the Bilbo Baggins entry.
Drag across Bilbo's old email address and press <Ctrl-V>
to paste the new one. When you have finished with the Address
Book work, you can close both the address book window and the
text file window by clicking the lower X mark. Confirm that you
want to save changes when closing the Address Book.
