| Step
1: Start Options Screen |
From Eudora's main screen, select Tools / Options / Checking Mail.
The POP account should be your email address. Leave the "check
for mail" at zero unless you want automatically scheduled
email checks. The "Skip messages" box is a troubleshooting
tool; leave it unchecked for now. "Send on check" is
the linkage between checking and sending mail. Save Password should
be checked for most users; if you uncheck the box then Eudora
will ask you for your password each time it logs in to the mail
server.

| Step
2: Continue Receive Options |
The option "leave mail on server" is useful if you use
email on more than one computer. For example, you may use a notebook
when traveling. You can download your messages, but leave them
on the server so they'll also come to your main computer after
you return. If you uncheck the "leave mail" option,
you should also check "delete from server after" and
specify 1 day. The "delete . when emptied from Trash"
option can be left unchecked.

| Step
3: Default Remaining Options |
The remaining options on the screen deal with the technical interface
between Eudora and the mail server. Most users can leave these
at their default values.

4: Set Attachment Options |
Select the Attachments category and you'll see a few options on
Eudora's handling of attached files. The first can be left at
the default MIME setting for most users; this pertains more to
sending attachments. Skip down to the delete options and you're
allowed to choose under what circumstances to delete received
attachments. The button below the title "Attachment directory"
allows you to specify a separate directory for received attachments.
Click the button now.
| Step
5: Set Attachment Location |
Eudora already has an "Attach" directory in place to
receive your attachments. If you have another location in mind,
browse to it and select it. Otherwise, click the Attach label
under EUDORA. Eudora uses the term "directory" rather
than the Microsoft-preferred term "folder." Click the
"Use Directory" button, twice if necessary, to dismiss
the window.
| Step
6: Attachment Options Again |
Eudora returns you to the attachment options screen, and the directory
you've selected is placed within the button.
| Step
7: Set Alerts |
Select the category "Getting Attention." This defines
what Eudora will do when you receive mail. This is important for
users with scheduled downloads. Check the first and third options
to have Eudora put up an alert box and play a sound. If you have
a sound you want to use, you may click the button and browse to
the file. The Open mailbox option is important only if you normally
use Eudora with the In box closed. Click OK to dismiss the options
window.
